Simon Bates
Simon is the founding partner along with Codi, of Bates Co.
Simon began cooking in restaurants at the age of 15 before attending the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY. His most notable work experience was the world-renowned Alinea in Chicago. Since then, he has worked both Front-of-House and Back-of-House jobs in the industry, providing him the experience and skill set to successfully manage and operate the Bates Co. restaurants.
Simon believes traveling is one of the most important things you can do and has been able to enjoy meals all around the globe. In 2015 he backpacked around the world for 40 days, learning about food, photography, and culture in around 12 different countries.
Simon enjoys, making music, photography, and creating mixed media art in his free time.
Codi Bates
At the age of 22, Codi started her career in the hospitality industry, gaining experience in roles ranging from host and pastry chef to General Manager and Beverage Director. As a James Beard WEL fellow, Entreprenista 100 winner, and a founding member of the Cherry Bombe Bombesquad, Codi’s leadership within Bates Co. has driven the growth of its diverse ventures. Since 2009, Bates Co. has operated The Burger Stand at the Casbah, Bon Bon, Taco Zone Catering and the Cider Gallery, a fine art gallery and event space in Lawrence, Kansas.
Codi is passionate about the power of bringing people together, foster community and support meaningful connections. Her love of travel combined with the power of the hospitality industry allows her to engage with other communities and learn more about the world.
